What's Up Wednesday - August 2026

I'm linking up with Scheaffer & Shay today for August's What's Up Wednesday. This happens the last Wednesday of every month and is a fun way to connect with other moms!

What we're eating this week....

Alec started his fall gymnastics schedule so we eat a little earlier in the fall. Lots of easier meals. I try to stick to specific categories for each day of the week. Monday meatballs, Taco Tuesday, Bowls on Wednesday, etc. This week I'm making Andrea's Taco Pie, a favorite in my house!

We're also eating my favorite Oatmeal Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies! I think the oats and peanut butter are tricking me into thinking they're healthier than they are! ;)

What I'm reminiscing about....

How fast the time has gone! Alec is in his 2nd year of level 7 for gymnastics (he's too young to move to level 9 until next year and boys do either level 7 or 8, his gym chooses the level 7 path for all the boys...different than girls gymnastics) and it feels like yesterday that he was a tiny little guy taking his first "professional" photos.

What I'm loving...

That I live in a neighborhood with so many kids my son's age. Nothing makes me happier than seeing all the neighborhood kid's bikes piled up on the lawn because I know they're having fun! Love that all the kids play so well together.

What we've been up to....

Enjoying the last week of summer here in MA before school starts next week. We're doing a mix of squeezing in some fun adventures, while also cleaning out closets and trying to prep for the craziness of the school year schedules!  This time of year is also our dog Macaroni's favorite time to walk around the neighborhood. Lots of things happening and lots to see! He's not super friendly to strangers, but he does love watching from afar! He also looks tiny in this photo, but he's 95 pounds and pretty big!

What I'm dreading....

Early mornings! We've gotten very laid back about our morning schedule this week and I need to kick it back in gear!

What I'm working on....

Being better about exercise. Yesterday I started the Moves app. I am absolutely horrible about working out, and the extra 30+ pounds I've been carrying around for 12+ years is an example. I do want to be better for my general health and also how I feel about myself, but it's so hard for me to stick with anything. Some days I feel like I'm too far gone as far as weight is to even try...but I know I have to. Any advice from any other moms in my shoes? I thought I was going to pass out doing 17 sad little minutes of what should have been a 30 min workout! LOL!!!

What I'm excited about....

As much as I'm dreading the early mornings, I am excited to get back into a regular schedule! I also cannot wait for the fall weather here in New England.

What I'm watching/reading....

I live in MA, so I've been watching the Lindsey Clancy trial. I'm shocked by how polarizing this case is. I have so many friends who are so far apart in how they feel about it. I have my thoughts, but I'm waiting to see how it all shakes out. My heart breaks for those sweet babies though, they didn't deserve this.

For books, I'm currently reading The Collected Regrets of Clover. This is the 2nd book that ChatGPT recommended for me since I read Theo of Golden and loved it. I'm only on the 2nd page, so we'll see if it turns out good or not.

What I'm listening to....

Currently listening to about 8 of the neighborhood boys playing a crazy loud game in the basement. As far as podcasts or music, I don't have anything right now but I'm happy to take recommendations!

What I'm wearing....

As far as mastecomy items go, I'm loving the AnaOno Leslie Bra (buy it one size smaller than you are normally) and I'm liking them the most with these Busted Tank inserts (I cut the center out so that they're two separate forms). These feel the most natural to me and help my clothes hang more nicely.

Lately I've been wearing a lot of LL Bean. It's easy and comfortable and works fine for me whether I'm home or at work (I work in a casual work environment). This summer I've loved these pull on jeans. They're lightweight, so not hot on a summer day and very comfortable. I took my normal size.

What I'm doing this weekend....

We're getting together with my son's friend and her family, but not sure yet what the plan is! I also need to finish up house projects and take out some annual plants that have died, weed the garden, etc. Typical fun adult stuff ;)

What I'm looking forward to next month....

September is always so crazy that it goes too quickly! I'm looking forward to the nice cool morning air (afternoons are still hot, which is kind of nice!). I'm looking forward to seeing my son do gymnastics (I catch a bit of his practice as much as possible!) and looking forward to chipping away at some house projects I've had on my list for a while.

What else is new....

This blog is new! I have been thinking about it for years. Thinking about sharing my journey in the hopes that it helps someone else. What I really hope for is that in the dark days of cancer discussions that someone will read this blog and see that normal life is often on the other side of the hard times. I'm still getting used to the idea of putting all of this out there. It feels strange to 'talk to the people in the internet', lol, but I do hope it reaches someone and helps them through it.
